Why is my country fixed?

When you create a business on Tuppence, you choose its country: the UK and the US. You can’t change it later, because three things depend on it:

  • One currency. A UK business takes payments, gets paid out and pays fees in pounds. A US business uses dollars. Its balance, reports and statements are all in that currency.
  • One set of rules. Each country has its own checks to go live, payout bank details (a sort code in the UK, a routing number in the US), card rules and prices.
  • One Stripe platform. The UK and the US each have their own Stripe platform. Your business’s Stripe account, with its verified details, payment history and money, stays on your country’s platform.

In Europe, the 20 euro countries share one Stripe platform and one currency, the euro. Your country still can’t change: it sets your company number, your IBAN’s country, your formats and your holidays.

Open a new business in the new country and switch between the two (see Switch between or add businesses). The new business goes live separately, with the new country’s checks and bank account. Your old business keeps its history. Keep it open until its last payouts arrive.
