Test mode and live mode

Every Tuppence account has two separate sides: test and live.

  • Test mode is a practice copy of your account. Take payments with test cards, refund them, open disputes and watch payouts, with no real money. It works from the moment you sign up, with no paperwork.
  • Live mode takes real payments from real cards and pays real money to your bank. It switches on after you go live.

Payments, customers, links and payouts in one mode don’t appear in the other.

In test mode, a banner across the top of every page says Test mode. No real money moves. Use test cards and test keys. In live mode there’s no banner.

In test mode, you don’t have to wait for things that happen over time, such as a subscription renewing, a booking reminder going out or a till’s shift closing itself after a day.

The banner shows the Test clock: Real time, or how far ahead your test account is. Choose Move time forward, then 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week or 30 days. Whatever was due in that time happens at once. Back to real time resets the clock. The clock only affects your test account, never live mode or other businesses.

Owners, admins, managers and developers see the test clock. Analysts and staff logins don’t.

At the bottom of the sidebar, under Mode, choose Test or Live. Your Home page opens in that mode.

Live is greyed out until your account is verified. Hover over it to see why.

Tap Account, then turn Test mode on or off. If your business isn’t live yet, the switch stays on test.
