Charge US sales tax where you're registered
This is for businesses in the US. Your store charges a state’s sales tax, worked out at the delivery address, only in the states where you add a registration. Tuppence counts your sales into each state, but whether you need to register is your decision, with your accountant.
Who can do this: You need to be an owner, admin or manager to do this.
Add a registration
Section titled “Add a registration”- Choose Store settings, then the Tax tab.
- Choose Add a registration.
- Choose the State and, if you want it on your documents, enter the Registration or permit number (optional).
- Choose the button that adds it, such as Add New York.
Your store charges that state’s sales tax on orders delivered there from then on. A registration can’t be removed once added, so add only the states where you hold a permit.
Read where you sell
Section titled “Read where you sell”Where you sell lists each state you deliver to, with what you’ve sold there over that state’s period and its threshold:
| Label | Means |
|---|---|
| Below | Under 80% of the state’s threshold |
| Near the threshold | From 80%. You get one notice for the period |
| Past the threshold | At or over the threshold |
| Registered | You’ve added a registration for the state. No notices are sent |
Sales are counted every night. In test mode the figures come from your test orders and say Test data.
