Open and close a shift

A shift covers the cash in one register’s drawer, from the starting float to the final count. The till can’t take cash without an open shift.

Who can do this: You need to be an owner, admin or manager to do this.

Anyone else needs Open and close a shift in their till permissions.

  1. Count the float into the drawer.
  2. On the till, open the menu at the top left and tap Shift and cash-up.
  3. The register’s float is filled in. If you counted a different amount, enter it.
  4. Tap Open the shift with the amount.

Tap Shift and cash-up at any time. This shift so far shows the Takings, the Float and what’s Expected in the drawer.

  1. Tap Shift and cash-up, then Cash up and close.
  2. Under Count the drawer, count each note and coin, using One more and One fewer.
  3. Check the Counted total, and the amount Over or short.
  4. If it’s out, say why in What happened?.
  5. Tap Close the shift with the amount counted.

Shift closed shows the shift’s Z report. We also email it to the owners.
