Start a subscription

Before you start

• An active plan
• A customer who has saved a card with you
• The customer's ID, from the Customers page
• You need to be an owner, admin or manager.

1. Open Customers, find the customer and copy their ID. It starts with cus_.
2. Open Subscriptions and choose New subscription.
3. Paste the ID into Customer ID.
4. Choose the Plan.
5. Choose Start subscription.

The subscription appears at the top of the page. If the plan has a free trial, it shows On trial and nothing is charged until the trial ends. Otherwise, the first period is charged to the customer’s saved card straight away.

If the customer has no saved card, send them a payment link that starts the subscription instead. See Sell a subscription with a payment link.
