A card purchase was declined

Find the purchase under Recent purchases. A declined one shows Declined, with the reason beside the date.

not enough to spend, so top up

Likely cause: The cards had less to spend than the purchase. Cards can't spend money customers pay you.

Fix:

Top up what the cards can spend, then ask the agent to try again.

more than could be paid out of your earnings right now

Likely cause: In the US, cards spend your earnings directly, so a purchase is money leaving your account, like a payout. It can't be more than you could pay out now.

Fix:

Wait until more of your money has cleared. Cards can’t spend in your account’s first seven days, while payouts are on hold, or past your daily payout limit, which card spend shares with payouts. Spendable on Cards shows how much you can spend now, and when more becomes available. See Top up what the cards can spend.

over the card's limit

Likely cause: The purchase would take the card past one of its limits, or its rules' limits.

Fix:

Raise the limit on the card’s page (see Set a card’s limits) or in its spending rules.

a person's approval was needed first

Likely cause: The purchase was at or above the approval amount in its rules, or unusual for the agent.

Fix:

An owner or admin approves it on Cards or in the app’s Approvals tab, then the agent tries again. See Approve or decline a purchase.

the card is not active

Likely cause: The card is frozen, cancelled, or a physical card that hasn't been activated.

Fix:

Unfreeze it, activate it, or issue a new card if it was cancelled.

that kind of merchant is not allowed, or is blocked

Likely cause: The card's rules only allow certain kinds of merchant.

Fix:

Edit the rules under Where the cards can buy, or give the card other rules.

that country is not allowed

Likely cause: The rules allow only merchants in your country, and this merchant is abroad.

Fix:

If the agent should buy abroad, untick Only in your country (Only in the UK or Only in the US) in the rules.

the card is for another merchant, or its single-use card was already used

Likely cause: A single-use card works once, at one merchant only.

Fix:

Issue a new single-use card for the purchase, or a card for ongoing spending.
