Xero

Connect Xero once and Tuppence posts to it every day: a Receive Money and a Spend Money transaction in a Tuppence bank account for each business day, and a bank transfer for each payout. For UK and US organisations. How it works for every tool is on Accounting integrations.

  1. Connect*Settings › Accounting*
  2. Approveon Xero's page
  3. Set upTuppence account, defaults
  4. Postingevery day after 03:00
  1. In Tuppence, open Settings › Accounting and choose Connect on Xero. You need to be an owner or admin.
  2. Sign in to Xero, pick the organisation and allow access.
  3. If you allowed more than one organisation, choose which one Tuppence posts to.

Setup then makes a bank account called Tuppence in your currency, picks your sales account (200 Sales in Xero’s standard chart) and the bank account payouts go to, and runs the first posting a minute later. It asks one question only if two of your bank accounts end in the same four digits as the account Tuppence pays you into. Every choice shows on the Accounting page with Change.

Your customers can pay your Xero invoices by card through Tuppence. Each payment is recorded against its invoice in the Tuppence bank account, so the invoice shows as paid without any retyping.

  1. In Tuppence, open Settings › Accounting and copy the Custom payment URL from Pay now on your Xero invoices.
  2. In Xero, go to Settings › Invoice settings › Payment services, choose Add custom payment URL, name it Tuppence and paste the URL.
  3. Choose Edit next to it and tick the branding themes your invoices use.
  4. Send an invoice. Your customer sees Pay now on it.
  • The payment page reads the invoice from Xero and asks for its amount due, whatever the link says.
  • A part payment is fine: Xero lowers the amount due, and the next payment asks for what is left.
  • A paid or cancelled invoice can’t be paid again.
  • In Xero the payment is a Payment on the invoice into Tuppence, reference Tuppence pay_…, on the day it was made. Tuppence’s fee on it is a Spend Money of its own that day, to the same fee account as the day’s other fees. The day’s sales leave the payment out, so nothing counts twice.
  • The invoice’s currency must be your Tuppence currency.

Connected in test mode, Tuppence reads a real organisation and shows a preview of what it would post, creating nothing. Test data posts for real only to Xero’s Demo Company, and only a Demo Company’s invoices can be paid with test cards. Live data posts through a connection made in live mode.
