Accounting integrations

Connect your accounting software from Settings › Accounting and Tuppence keeps your books up to date by itself: one sales receipt and one costs payment for each business day, and a transfer for each payout on the day it reaches your bank. There is nothing to map and no file to import. It’s free on every account.

Using something else (Sage 50, KashFlow, Pandle, Zoho Books, FreshBooks)? Download the statement file: the same postings as a bank statement in CSV or OFX.

Tuppence makes a bank account called Tuppence in your books. It stands for the money Tuppence holds for you. Each day’s sales go into it, fees and refunds come out of it, and each payout moves from it to your real bank account. So the Tuppence account’s balance in your books is your Tuppence balance, and every payout matches the line your bank feed shows.

Returned payoutThe day it came backA transfer back from your bank account to the Tuppence account
Card purchasesEach business day with card spendMoney out of a Tuppence card bank account, which stands for your card balance, to the contact Card purchases. One line per expense account, chosen from what each merchant sells (Travel, Meals and entertainment, Motor and fuel, Software and subscriptions, Office costs, Advertising and marketing, Phone and internet, Postage and delivery, Professional fees), naming the merchants: Card purchases at Trainline (2), Uber. Anything else goes to Card spend to categorise. Card refunds and disputes won come back to the same account. Top-ups of the card balance are transfers into it. In the US your cards spend your Tuppence balance, so these lines are on the Tuppence account’s costs payment
Your platform’s moneyEach business day, if you run a platformInto and out of a Tuppence Connect balance bank account, which stands for your Connect balance, with the contact Tuppence Connect. Platform fees earned (and Platform fees refunded) on Platform income; Transfers to connected accounts (and those returned) and Connected account losses on Platform costs; Tuppence fees on connected accounts you pay on Tuppence fees. The daily move of your fees into your Tuppence balance is a transfer from the Tuppence Connect balance account to the Tuppence account. Your connected businesses’ own money is not posted to your books
Opening balanceOnce, on your start dateOnly if you start later than your first day on Tuppence: one receipt (or payment) for the balance on that date, from a Tuppence opening balance account for your accountant to clear
Late movementThe next runA refund or other movement that reaches a day after it was posted goes in a second posting for the same date, reference Tuppence 13 Oct 2026 (2). Nothing posted is ever edited

Each line with the same label is added up, and a line goes on the receipt or the payment by its sign, so neither document ever has a negative total. Every document links back to its day in Tuppence. The postings carry totals, not your customers’ names or emails, unless you turn on detail mode.

With How much detail set to A receipt for each payment, each payment goes in as its own receipt with the customer as the contact, and each refund as its own payment to the same contact. The contact is the customer’s name and email, or the email they paid with; a payment with neither uses Tuppence sales. Tuppence looks the contact up by email before it makes one, so a customer who pays twice is one contact. Fees, disputes, cashback and payouts stay on the day’s summary, so your books get one fee line a day. Customer names and emails then go to your accounting software. A day with more than 150 sales goes in as one summary, with a note, to stay inside your software’s monthly limits. A change applies from that day’s sales; days already posted stay as they are.

On 13 October a business takes £120.00$120.00€120.00 through payment links, including a £5.00$5.00€5.00 tip, refunds £2.00$2.00€2.00 of an earlier sale, and pays £3.42$3.42€3.42 of Tuppence fees.

The Tuppence account goes up by £114.58$114.58€114.58, the same as the business’s Tuppence balance.

With a 20% sales account, your books work out the VAT from the VAT-inclusive lines: £19.17 on the sales and £0.33 back on the refund. The tip is outside VAT.

The £114.58$114.58€114.58 is paid out and reaches the bank on 15 October. Tuppence posts a transfer of £114.58$114.58€114.58 from Tuppence to the business’s bank account, dated 15 October, reference Tuppence payout po_… TUPPENCE. The bank feed shows £114.58$114.58€114.58 in from Tuppence on 15 October, so the reconcile screen pairs the two. One click and it’s done, and the Tuppence account is back to zero.

A real payout usually carries several days’ money: whatever it carries, the transfer is for the amount that arrived. An instant payout’s fee goes on the costs payment of the day it was taken.

Connecting runs setup. It asks a question only when it can’t choose.

The Accounting page shows each setting as a sentence (“Sales go to 200 Sales with its own VAT rate”), each with Change. Tuppence never renames or deletes anything in your books. Owners and admins connect, change and disconnect; managers, developers and analysts can see the page and download. Invite your accountant as an analyst.

Pause stops posting until you resume. Disconnect stops posting and keeps everything already in your books. Connecting a second tool pauses the first.

You can connect in test mode. For real books, Tuppence only reads them and shows the preview of what it would post from your test data: it creates nothing there. Test data is posted for real only to a Xero demo company, a QuickBooks sandbox company, a FreeAgent sandbox company or a Sage trial business. Test mode and live mode each have their own connection, so live data posts only through a connection made in live mode.
